Nature in new light at Box Gallery Manning

A captivating new exhibition from local artist Anne Gee is lighting up Box Gallery Manning. 

Threading Light explores the beauty of everyday wonders, simple joys and the natural world through intricate hand-cut paper artworks. Inspired by a Western Australian childhood spent outdoors and by the sea, Anne finds extraordinary patterns in the things we might otherwise walk past – from a banksia cone’s precise spiral to the ruffled edges of a shell. 

Created from single-sheet papercuts and digitally editioned for illuminated lightbox frames, the works take on a magical quality as the light changes. By day, they appear as bold as black-and-white silhouettes, while after dark, the intricate cuts and delicate details are revealed as they glow from within. 

Gee’s work is already part of the City’s Art Collection, with one of her pieces receiving the Emerging Artist Award People’s Choice in 2013 before being reproduced and displayed at the Angelo St Coles basement gallery.

Box Gallery is a display of 10 permanent public exhibition boxes at Manning Hub that showcase local artists and community groups.
