Annual Weed Control Program to begin across the City

The City will begin its annual Weed Control Treatment Program on Monday 24 August 2026 to help keep local roads, kerbs and footpaths safe, accessible and well maintained. 

Running for approximately four weeks, weather permitting, the program targets a range of weeds growing along roads, kerbs and footpaths within road reserves. Works will commence in the Manning Ward before progressing to other areas across the City. 

The Weed Control Treatment Program is separate to the City's Broadleaf Spraying Program, which began on 27 July and is expected to finish in early September.  

While the Weed Control Treatment Program focuses on roads, kerbs and footpaths, the Broadleaf Spraying Program targets weeds such as bindii and clover in parks, reserves and other turf areas to maintain healthy turf and prevent weeds from spreading. 

Together, the two programs form part of the City's integrated approach to weed management, using treatment methods suited to different weed types and environments. 

To ensure the most appropriate treatment is used at each location during the Weed Control Treatment Program, the following methods will be applied: 

• Glyphosate and Glyphosate Bioactive herbicides on minor and distributor roads  
• Organic weed treatment using pine oil and pelargonic acid in shopping precincts  
• Steam weed control around schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other selected locations.  

Caution signage will be displayed on contractor vehicles and around treatment areas while works are underway.  

All herbicides used by the City, including Glyphosate, are applied by licensed contractors in accordance with strict safety requirements and the manufacturer's recommendations. 

Residents who would like the area directly outside their property excluded from treatment are encouraged to contact the City at least one week before works begin, where possible.
