New Community Pantry coming to South Perth Library
We’re making it easier for people to access everyday essentials with the launch of a new Community Pantry at South Perth Library.
Opening ahead of Homelessness Week (3-9 August), the self-service pantry will offer free non-perishable food and basic essential items for anyone who needs a little extra support. Located in the library foyer, the pantry is designed to be a simple, welcoming community resource where people can take what they need or leave what they can.
There are no referrals, registrations or eligibility requirements – just a shared commitment to supporting one another. Visitors are encouraged to take only what they need so the pantry remains stocked for others, and community members are welcome to contribute suitable non-perishable food and essential items by following the pantry signage.
The initiative supports the City's Access and Inclusion Plan 2022–2027, which aims to foster a community that is accessible and inclusive for all, and is one of a number of donation drives the City runs throughout the year.
The Community Pantry also reflects the important role our libraries play as welcoming spaces for everyone. Alongside the new pantry, South Perth Library offers free public computers, internet access, Justice of the Peace sessions, language classes, printing and scanning services, and thousands of free books, eBooks and digital resources.
