City boosts community safety with second mobile CCTV trailer
Community safety efforts in the City of South Perth have been ramped up with the addition of a second mobile CCTV trailer.
Arriving in the City in June and deployed in strategic partnership with Kensington Police, the state-of-the-art trailer will serve as a protective measure and widen the current scope in addressing crime hotspots identified by the City and WA Police.
Funded through a $75,000 contribution from the WA Government as part of the 2025 Local Government Election Commitments, the trailer will be deployed at various locations across the City as needed.
Additionally, two Australian Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras were recently installed along Mill Point Road by police to assist in identifying vehicles of interest.
Looking ahead, the City is working together with WA Police to install five fixed CCTV and three ANPR cameras with live-viewing capabilities in four Police identified locations throughout the community by September.
City of South Perth Mayor Greg Milner said the City’s proactive approach to increasing CCTV coverage underpinned its commitment to promoting a safe and secure community for all residents.
“The safety of our community is a priority for the City, and these additional surveillance measures will help deter antisocial behaviour and support police in responding quickly to incidents,” Mayor Milner said.
“This new mobile CCTV trailer provides greater flexibility to target identified hotspots and respond to emerging community safety concerns where they are needed most,” he added.
Mayor Milner said the City would continue working closely with WA Police to strengthen local crime prevention initiatives.
The City urges residents to report any suspicious behaviour to Crime Stoppers WA by calling 1800 333 000 or reporting online at crimestopperswa.com.au/report or call 131 444 if they require police assistance.
Residents can also self-register their home CCTV cameras with WA Police’s secure Cam- Map database which provides police with a map of where cameras are located in the community and can assist them to investigate incidents.
