Eradication effort underway to stop Qfly
Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) has been found in our community. Residents can help stop its spread by checking fruiting plants, disposing of fallen fruit safely, and reporting any suspected Qfly to the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).
A Quarantine Area is in place covering more than 7,000 properties in South Perth, Como, Kensington, Bentley and East Victoria Park – within a 1.5 km radius of the Qfly outbreak.
DPIRD Biosecurity Officers will be visiting properties in the Como and South Perth areas to undertake inspections and trapping. Residents in the area are asked to support the Biosecurity Officers and allow them access to their gardens if requested.
Baiting of street trees commenced from Tuesday 8 April using a registered organic bait called Naturalure.
