Entries now open for the 2026 South Perth Young Writers Award

Put pen to paper and let your imagination lead the way because the South Perth Young Writers Award (SPYWA) is back for another year.  

Aspiring authors from Year 1 to Year 10 who live or attend school within the City of South Perth are encouraged to enter. 

Now in its 40th year, the long-running award gives students a chance to showcase their creativity and develop their storytelling skills.  

The competition is open to five age categories: 

  • Lower Primary (Years 1-2) 
  • Middle Primary (Years 3-4) 
  • Upper Primary (Years 5-6) 
  • Lower Secondary (Years 7-8) 
  • Middle Secondary (Years 9-10) 

Shortlisted entrants from each category will be invited to attend a workshop with a local author and all winners will have their work published in an anthology and receive exciting prizes.
