DPIRD removes Swamp Paperback in South Perth's Sir James Mitchell Park

News Update 11 December 2024

The Department of Primary Industry & Regional Development (DPIRD) will soon remove a Swamp Paperbark (Melaleuca rhaphiophylla) within Sir James Mitchelle Park near lake Hurlingham in South Perth.

The tree will be removed due to the Polyphagous Shot Hole Borer (PSHB) infestation reaching an advanced stage.

Replacement planting will be undertaken during the 2025 winter planting season. Priority will be given to trees native to the Swan Coastal Plain region, known for their adaption to dry climates and resilience against future attacks from PSHB.
