New playground to swing into action at George Burnett Park

Recreational facilities in Karawara are getting an upgrade with an exciting new playground coming to George Burnett Park. The new playground will replace the two existing playgrounds at the park to create a comprehensive new destination play space.  

The new playground will sit alongside the Manning Skate Park, Manning Bike Track, George Burnett Leisure Centre and nearby café, creating an upgraded family-friendly precinct with something for every age group to enjoy.  

The $625,000 playground is part of the City’s 2026/27 Capital Works Program. The project will replace the park’s two existing playgrounds, which will be decommissioned. 

Families, residents and playground users have the chance to share their favourite play activities and shape the new playground by visiting  Your Say South Perth from 22 September to 12 October.  

“I’m thrilled that the City of South Perth is able to lay the foundations for this new playground, creating a vibrant new community space to benefit residents and visitors,” Mayor Greg Milner said. 

“The George Burnett Precinct in Karawara is one of the City’s premier leisure and recreation precincts projects and this major project will help to deliver on the community’s vision for active spaces and beautiful places. 

“This isn’t just about providing swings and slides; it’s about creating a place to bring families, encourage active play, and create lasting memories for the whole family to cherish for years to come.”  

Following community engagement and construction, the new playground is expected to be completed in July 2027.
