City of South Perth recognised for safety on the roads

The City of South Perth has been recognised for its ongoing commitment to road safety, receiving Four Ribbon status from RoadWise at this year’s WALGA Local Government Awards. 

It marks the third consecutive year the City has received recognition through the RoadWise Ribbon Awards program. 

Ribbon status is graded from one to five and acknowledges local governments that demonstrate a strong commitment to planning, implementing, monitoring and communicating road safety initiatives.  

The award reflects a whole-of-organisation approach to road safety and acknowledges the systems and practices in place to improve safety outcomes for the community. 

The City has recently completed several road safety improvements, including upgrades to one of the City’s worst black spots at the Dyson Street and Canning Highway intersection, a new pedestrian zebra crossing at the intersection of Anstey and Angelo streets and a new school crossing at Morrison Street. 

Mayor Greg Milner said: "Receiving Four Ribbon RoadWise status is a proud moment for the City, reflecting our commitment to creating safer streets for everyone in our community.” 

“This is a testament to our team's hard work in embedding vital road safety initiatives across all areas of our operations. 

“Our work is far from done. In the coming financial year, the City has committed a further $6.3 million towards road upgrades and we will continue working with other inner-city local governments to implement a 40km/h speed limit on local roads.” 

The RoadWise Program supports local governments to adopt best-practice road safety approaches and effectively manage the safety performance of their local road networks.
