More containers now accepted at the City’s Drop & Go station

News Update 9 July 2026

Residents can now claim 10-cent refunds on an even wider range of drink containers at the City of South Perth's Containers for Change Drop & Go station, following state-wide changes to the Containers for Change scheme.

From 1 July 2026, eligible containers have expanded to include drink containers between 150ml and 3L, including wine and spirit bottles, juice and cordial bottles, pouches and casks and flavoured milk and juice cartons (excluding UHT products). These are in addition to the plastic and glass bottles, aluminium cans and other eligible drink containers already accepted under the scheme.

Residents are reminded to remove all lids from plastic and glass bottles before returning them. Lids can be placed in the dedicated lid recycling bin at the Recycling Centre. While flavoured milk containers are now eligible for a 10-cent refund, plain milk containers remain excluded from the scheme and should be placed in residents' yellow-lidded recycling bins.

The City's Drop & Go station, located at the Recycling Centre and operated by Good Sammy, provides a convenient way to return eligible containers for a refund or donate the proceeds to a local charity.

Since opening in August 2025, the Drop & Go station has received more than 200,000 eligible drink containers, helping residents recycle more while earning refunds and supporting community organisations. With more containers now accepted under the scheme, even more residents can take part in the scheme and increase recycling across the community.

Unlike refund depots and self-service kiosks, refunds from the Drop & Go station are not processed immediately. Bags are collected twice a week and transported to a sorting facility, where eligible containers are counted before refunds are transferred to the nominated account.

Using the service is easy. Simply sign up for a Containers for Change member number, place eligible containers in a green Containers for Change bag or sturdy garbage bag, attach a member tag and drop the bag into the Drop & Go chute. Refunds are typically processed within a few days after the containers have been counted.

The City of South Perth Recycling Centre is open Wednesday to Sunday from 8am to 2pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, visitors are asked to arrive before 1.45pm.
