Local government monitor appointment update

The City of South Perth will write to the Local Government Inspector requesting an extension of the term of appointment of Local Government Monitor Gail McGowan PSM to 17 August 2026 inclusive, following a Special Council Meeting held on 16 June. 

Council voted unanimously to request the extension, and a modification to the Terms of Appointment for the Monitoring Assignment to provide a revised date in which the Final Report to the Local Government Inspector is due. 

Ms McGowan was initially appointed by Local Government Inspector Tony Brown in February 2026 to observe Council and committee meetings, review governance practices and provide advice to the City. 

Her appointment was originally due to conclude on 29 April 2026 and was subsequently extended by Mr Brown to 17 June.
