Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors light up Mindeerup

News Update 14 November 2025

The iconic Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors will transform Mindeerup into a glowing wonderland of art, culture and history for four dazzling nights from Friday 14 November.

In celebration of the Terracotta Warriors: Legacy of the First Emperor exhibition at WA Museum Boola Bardip, these larger-than-life silk lanterns will illuminate the South Perth Foreshore, bringing to life the legend of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang.

Originally created for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the South Perth installation features a limited preview of 20 illuminated figures in striking shades of red, yellow, blue, green and white – each a contemporary fusion of traditional Chinese coloured lantern-making and the ancient artistry of the Terracotta Warriors.

Created by artists from the Beijing Chaoyang International Cultural Exchange Association, the Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors have captivated audiences around the world. Their arrival at Mindeerup offers a rare chance to see a preview of these luminous works up close, set against the stunning backdrop of the Perth city skyline.
