Mark Parfitt steps down as Art Advisory Group chair
After nearly a decade of dedicated service, Mark Parfitt is stepping down from the City’s Arts Advisory Group.
Mark, who joined the group in March 2016 and has served as Chair for the past six years, has made a lasting contribution to the City’s arts and cultural landscape.
As Senior Lecturer and Major Lead in Fine Art at Curtin University, Mark brought deep expertise and passion to his role.
Reflecting on his time with the group, Mark said it had been an enjoyable experience working with Elected Members and staff and getting to know lots of people from different backgrounds.
“Because of the variety of projects, I’ve found it incredibly interesting. Everyone’s passionate about art too, so we’ve had some lively discussions about how creativity is meant to enrich the community socially and culturally,” he said.
“I’ve loved helping out with public art projects, community events and of course, the Emerging Artist Award,” he added.
During his time, the group provided key guidance on the City’s inaugural Cultural Plan and Public Art Masterplan, shaped public artworks for the Mindeerup development and Manning Hub, and contributed to numerous projects through the Developer Contribution to Public Art Scheme (now Local Planning Policy 6.3 Public Art).
We thank Mark for his leadership and commitment to fostering creativity and cultural vibrancy in our community.
If you are interested in shaping the future of the City, nominations are open for a range of advisory groups, including Arts. See our website for further details.
