Keep your verge neat and tidy this spring
After Perth’s wettest winter in nearly 30 years, gardens across the City are thriving – and so are our verges.
While the City maintains street trees and verge gardens in road islands and medians, verge landscaping outside private properties – including lawns, gardens and other treatments – is the responsibility of the property owner.
We encourage everyone to take pride in their verges by planting native and waterwise gardens, mowing when the grass gets too long, and keeping vegetation under 75cm to maintain clear sightlines, accessibility and minimise fire risk. A tidy verge makes your property shine and brightens the whole street.
From October to November, the City will mow verges over 500mm for fire safety, but year-round upkeep is up to the property owner. If the City needs to step in to address an overgrown verge or obstruction, the property owner may be charged for the work. This is in line with our updated Fees and Charges schedule.
Please read our Street Verge Landscape Guidelines for more information about acceptable verge treatments.
