A new interactive exhibition by local artist Kristy Anne Campbell is now on display at Box Gallery Manning, celebrating nature, curiosity, and the delicate beauty of South Perth’s ecosystems.

Titled ‘Between the Sun & the Moon,’ the mesmerising artwork explores South Perth’s rich native flora, fauna, and insect life through a blend of illustration, digital paint, and mixed media.

The first nine boxes represent a different period of the day, from the stillness of predawn to the quiet solitude of 3am, capturing moments of natural beauty and inviting visitors on a journey through the passage of time.

The works depict native species from South Perth’s wetlands, riverbanks, and bushland, each accurately portrayed based on the time they are most likely to be observed in nature.

A key feature of the exhibition is its interactive element, where hidden illustrations within each lightbox challenge visitors to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the natural world. Some illustrations are easily visible, while others are carefully camouflaged, encouraging a deeper engagement with the artwork and its scientific accuracy.

The final, tenth box encapsulates the entire day in a single, breathtaking artwork. To further connect the exhibit to the natural world, visitors are invited to pick up a free illustrated map and field guide at the library to visit the real-life South Perth locations where these species thrive.
