New 40km/h speed limit introduced in South Perth to address hooning concerns

The City of South Perth has introduced a 40km/h speed limit at the northern end of the South Perth Peninsula, as part of ongoing efforts to address hooning concerns and improve road safety in the area.   

The speed reduction forms part of the City’s broader strategy to address community concerns and create safer neighbourhoods.  

As well as the new 40km/h speed limit, the City has implemented a range of measures, including closing Millers Pool car park number 11, from 10pm to 5am daily, to enhance the safety and livability of the area.  

The following streets now have a 40km/h speed limit:   
  • Darley Street 
  • Ray Street 
  • Mends Street 
  • Harper Terrace 
  • Mill Point Road–Labouchere Road to Jet Ski Car Park 12 
  • South Perth Esplanade 
  • Ferry Street 
  • Frasers Lane 
  • Queen Street 
  • Mill Point Close 
  • Scott Street 
  • Melville Parade–North of the Millpoint Road Freeway off-ramp
  • Stirling Street 
  • Melville Place 
  • Old Mill Service Road 
  • Stone Street

The city continues to work with key stakeholders including State Government agencies, to create more active and liveable neighbourhoods.  

These measures also provide wider community benefits, including encouraging better interaction between drivers, pedestrians and cyclists; helping create more attractive and connected communities; and making neighbourhoods safer.
