A sporting success
If you or someone in your family plays cricket, chances are you’ve heard of the legendary Meuleman’s Cricket Centre shop on Canning Hwy in South Perth.
The family-owned and run business is Australia’s longest-established cricket store, supplying gear to Australian players and clubs since 1963.
The Meuleman name is well known in Australian cricketing circles. In the 1950s, Ken Meuleman moved to WA from Victoria to play in the Sheffield Shield competition. He later went on to captain and coach the side.
Ken was highly regarded as a player, coach, and administrator of the game, and continued his passion for cricket off the field by establishing Meuleman’s Cricket Centre.
The shop has been at its current location for 35 years. It originally started in Perth city then moved to Canning Hwy, a few doors down from where it is now. Later, a second shop in Joondalup was opened.
Ken’s son Robert Meuleman and grandson Scott Meuleman have also played for WA – the only father-son-grandson trio to have all made first-class centuries in the history of Australian cricket.
Scott says the history of the business is unique, and four generations have worked in the store.
“Seven family members are currently working, with a combined total of over 140 years of experience,” he says. “We all work on the floor, and our years of knowledge and experience help the customer find what is best for them.”
The South Perth store features a world-class indoor practice and coaching facility, which attracts a who’s who of cricket.
“We have international players such as Mitch and Shaun Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Josh Philippe use our nets as well as other state players like Teague Wiley and Jono Wells, but anyone can hire the nets – they're available for hire to all levels of cricketers,” he says.
