Emerging Artist People's Choice Winner

Congratulations to Paris Wilkinson, the winner of the 2020 Emerging Artist Award, Soco Realty People’s Choice Award, for her oil painting titled ‘Grandad Ted’.

Paris, a youth entrant, received the most votes submitted by visitors during the exhibition, making ‘Grandad Ted’ the most popular choice. She also received a high commendation from the judges.

As well as winning the $500 cash prize provided by sponsor Soco Realty, the artwork will be reproduced and placed in the undercroft carpark at Coles Supermarket on Angelo Street in South Perth alongside previous winners.

Celebrating its 18th year, the 2020 Emerging Artist Award is a vital part of the City’s cultural life and is open to all emerging artists who live in Western Australia.

This year the City received more than 115 entries, with 63 artworks chosen by judges Jane King, Erin Coates and Ron Bradfield Jnr for the exhibition at the South Perth Community Hall in October.

This year the City purchased two of the artworks, ‘Swan Delight’ by Veronica McPhail and ‘Anthropo(s)cenic 2020 – South Perth Playground’ by Cindy Addison.
