Morning Ceremony

Australia Day celebrations begins early with the City of South Perth's Morning Ceremony.

The day commences at 8am with the Flag Raising Ceremony which includes the delivery of the Australian flag, a blessing, the formal unfurling and then the rising of the Australian flag by the Australian Defence Forces.

The Citizenship Ceremony follows where guests are welcomed with a traditional Welcome to Country before being inducted as new Australian citizens. Members of the public are also invited to join in and reaffirm their citizenship pledge together with the City's newest Australians.

Celebrating 70 Years of Citizenship - On 26 January 2019, the Australian Government will mark 70 years since Australian citizenship was introduced into law, creating for the first time a legal status of being uniquely Australian.

For 70 years, citizens have been working together to build a strong, united and prosperous Australia. All citizens commit to Australia and its people, working together to increase the prosperity of our nation. In 2019 we celebrate the diverse stories of our citizens, the values that we share and the history we create together. Find out more at www.homeaffairs.gov.au/auscitz70

The proceedings also include a presentation of the Australia Day WA Citizen of the Year Awards, acknowledging those individuals and organisations that make a notable contribution during the year, and/or those who have given outstanding service over a number of years.

The Ted Maslen Award is also presented to the student resident who achieves the highest score of all year 12 students within the City of South Perth.

The Great Aussie Breakfast is set to sizzle after the Morning Ceremony from 9.30am with the Rotary Club of Como providing a BBQ breakfast for the small cost of $5. All proceeds go back into the community. Free roaming entertainment. All residents are welcome to attend.
