Local Planning Strategy
The City has adopted its first Local Planning Strategy. The Local Planning Strategy will guide the growth of the City over the next 10-15 years. The Local Planning Strategy sets out a framework for the City to prepare a new local planning scheme to replace the existing Town Planning Scheme No. 6.
The process for preparing a Local Planning Strategy, including community consultation, is set by the State Government.

Council adopts Local Planning Strategy. | Completed. | Council considered the Draft Local Planning Strategy at its meeting in September 2019 where it was resolved that further review was needed. Following a series of workshops, further modifications to the Draft Strategy are proposed and Council was scheduled to again consider the Draft Strategy at the March 2020 Council Meetings. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the item was withdrawn from the agenda and the matter was not considered. The Draft Strategy was endorsed at the July 2020 Council meeting. The City’s population is forecast to grow by an additional 21,742 people to a total of around 65,000 people between 2016 and 2041. This population growth will increase demand for employment opportunities and access to infrastructure of all kinds (social, open space, transport).
