Womanthinking

Our Words with Wine program has teamed up with Manning Sunset Sessions to present Centre for Stories with three storytellers who will share true and personal stories from their own lives for this special edition. These stories will spark empathy, make you laugh, and encourage you to think a little deeper.

MEET THE STORYTELLERS

Sandi Parsons considers her guardianship of gifted lungs one of her many victories in her ongoing battle with Cystic Fibrosis. She was 38 when she underwent a double lung transplant. Sandi says that society’s expectations disabled her far more than her body did, and she has outlived her expiry date many times over.

Hossein Bouazar is an Ahwazi refugee who arrived in Australia in late 2012 after fleeing Iran with his father. He completed his Diploma of ICT Networking whilst learning English. Hossein uses his story of migrating to Australia to explain the importance of freedom and democracy.

Zenatalla Ibrahim is a recent dentistry graduate from the University of Western Australia. She is passionate about using her voice to speak on intersectional feminist issues, such as the empowerment of the modern Muslim woman. When she isn’t studying or fixing teeth, she’s creating – an avid visual artist and poet drawing strength from raw vulnerability and connection.

The Centre for Stories is a vibrant, inclusive literary arts and cultural organisation based in Northbridge. They use storytelling to inspire social cohesion and improve understanding of diverse communities.
