Can you tell me the policies your local government holds in regards to spraying of pesticides and herbicides ?

The City of South Perth only uses chemicals that are approved by the APVMA (Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority).

Approximately four weeks prior to any applications of any chemicals a public advertisement is placed in the local newspaper, The Southern Gazette, and information is posted on the City’s website to notify residents. In some instances individual home owners are contacted directly and/or letters are distributed in areas adjacent to the spray site. The City strives to improve practices around compliance, community consultation, methodology and safety of chemical spraying.

Is your local government involved in a steam trial? If so, can you tell me how the trial/steam works and is it suitable for all weeds?
Yes. The City took part in steam trial and as a result has recently purchased a steam unit which will be delivered in the coming weeks. The proper application of steam is a very effective way of managing and reducing numbers of a wide range of weeds including aquatic species. The City is looking forward to the use of this steam treatment as a way of reducing weeds, it is innovative and will be a means whereby the use of chemicals can be reduced.
