Fiesta opens with free music, entertainment, fireworks and more!

Media Release 17 February 2016
Thousands of visitors will throng to the City of South Perth annual Fiesta activities this year held over two weeks.

City of South Perth Mayor, Sue Doherty said Fiesta would be launched on the picturesque Sir James Mitchell Park on Saturday 5 March 2016 with a free concert.

“With a host of sensational performers taking the stage, including some very exciting local talent, the Fiesta Concert features the soulful musical talents of singer/songwriter Nathaniel (pictured right)”, Mayor Doherty said.

“He will be performing songs from his debut album Yours, including the hit singles ‘Always Be Yours,’ ‘Live Loud’ and ‘Yours.’

Promising to be a great introduction to the City’s Fiesta theme for 2016, A Story To Tell, the songs from Nathaniel’s album will take the listeners on an emotional journey through stories of love, inspiration, being true to yourself and making the right decisions.

While the Perth R&B party band Blacktop will start up the dance floor followed by the soulful voice of Perth newcomer EDDE whose big voice adds a new flavour for those who enjoy a difference in Perth’s Perth music scene.

Commencing at 5pm, the event runs until 9.30pm. It kicks off with fabulous pre-show entertainment, fun activities for kids, both big and small, and a gourmet food truck village. Following the performances concert-goers will be treated to a spectacular fireworks show hosted by Pagoda Resort and Spa celebrating the official opening of Fiesta.

Now in its 22nd year, Fiesta 2016 also features purpose built artwork by local artist Tom Mùller titled ‘Ascending Signals’.

Mayor Doherty added that the four metre high pyramid-shaped artworks were inspired by aspects of nautical navigation, along with traditional and more recent uses of the landscape, in their design.

“These sculptures will be on display for three weeks prior to the start of Fiesta, and activated with light and hazers from 6.45-9.45pm Thursdays to Sundays,” she said.

‘Ascending Signals’ will be on display from Thursday 18 February to Sunday 6 March.

Other Fiesta events include A Park for All Reasons exhibition and Totally Addicted to Play, a celebration of 50 years of community kindergarten.

Fiesta will conclude with an enormous display of culinary delights, art, culture, music, fashion as part of the Angelo Street Marketplace occurring on Sunday 20 March 2016.
