City to get soaked at Summer Splash public water fight in Karawara

Media Release 7 January 2016
Karawara Vision
Gather your neighbours, friends and family on Friday 29 January – the last day of the school holidays – for the opportunity to cool off with a wet and wild water battle like no other!

The City of South Perth will be joined by the South Perth Youth Network (SPYN), Kensington Police, Royal Life Saving WA and Gowrie WA to put on the biggest water fight the City has ever seen at ‘Summer Splash’ – part of the ‘A Story to Tell’ arts and events programme.

Summer Splash is a free event that will activate the the greenways of Karawara (area behind Gowrie WA) and is aimed to bring people together and have fun while exploring the hidden parks and pathways of this suburb.

The City’s local police unit Kensington Police are challenging the neighbours with ‘Kids vs Kenso Cops’, providing children a once in a lifetime opportunity to soak a police officer from head-to-toe.

While some lo-tech artillery will be provided, attendees are encouraged to bring their own water pistol to add to the fun. Featured at the event will be a giant inflatable slip and slide and a free sausage sizzle with fresh fruit supplied by Waterford IGA and Neighbourhood Watch South Perth.

As a sideline to this epic water battle, the South Perth libraries ‘Bench Talk Project’ will also be at the event. The purpose of this project is for volunteers to record people’s personal recollections and local stories to display on the ‘South Perth Stories’ website being launched later this year.

The City of South Perth is mindful in acknowledging current water restrictions are in place. Summer Splash will utilise purchased water from a water tank hire service and take place on grass to limit water wastage. Families with young children are encouraged to turn off the sprinklers and leave temporary paddle pools empty for the day, and instead come along and become involved in this special public water fight.

Summer Splash is inclusive, accessible and suitable for all ages with parental supervision required for children 8 years and under. Please wear enclosed shoes and be sun smart. For more information visit the City’s website or phone 9474 0777.
