Award for South Perth Foreshore Strategy and Management Plan

Media Release 3 July 2015
South Perth Foreshore
The City of South Perth has been recognised at the 2015 Parks & Leisure Australia (WA) Awards of Excellence held last week, winning the Award for Leisure and/or Open Space Planning for the South Perth Foreshore Strategy and Management Plan (SPF Plan).

This award salutes and promotes well planned open space or leisure facilities by rewarding outstanding examples of strategic planning that enrich and revitalise communities.

Competing for the award were 9 nominees – the Busselton Foreshore Redevelopment, Roebourne Recreation Precinct, Esperance Waterfront and nominations for the City of Subiaco, Rockingham, and Kalamunda.

The City’s SPF Plan aims to balance the competing demands for use of the South Perth Foreshore, development and management of the precious regional reserve/Regional Open Space (ROS) with the need to conserve and enhance a functional healthy river and foreshore environment. The plan communicates the fundamental ‘why and what’ for the South Perth Foreshore and will be used as a gauge against which all future decisions for the site are validated.

As winner of the WA award, the SPF Plan is now in the running for the National PLA award, to be announced in October 2015.

The SPF Plan is available on the City’s website. Community engagement on the next step forward will commence next month. Sign up to the City’s eNewsletter South Perth In Focus via the website for more information.
