South Perth Aquatic Centre feasibility study report

In May 2014, the City of South Perth was awarded $45,000 by the Federal Government Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development to conduct a South Perth Aquatic Centre feasibility study. 

The City appointed Jill Powell and Associates by in January 2015 to conduct the study. Consultation included a random household survey of 650 surveys distributed equally across the City’s suburbs via Australia Post.

A total of 201 surveys were returned, representing a 31.53% return rate. 

Jill Powell and Associates also conducted interviews and meetings with relevant City officers, Swimming WA, Water Polo WA, Curtin University, Town of Victoria Park, City of Canning, Mr Steve Irons MP and the Department of Sport and Recreation.  

An extensive literature review formed a key part of the study and included previous studies and reports commissioned by the City and the state government, demographics and other relevant documents.

In addition, a total of 90 written submissions were received by the City in support of a swimming pool. 

Council will consider the report in July 2015 to decide the next step forward.
