Feedback on the Manning Community Hub Information Sessions

Media Release 24 October 2014
Manning Community Hub
The City of South Perth recently held two community information sessions on the Manning Community Hub project. These sessions were well attended with approximately 70 attending on Saturday 20 September 2014 and 60 attendees at the Wednesday 24 September 2014 session.

Held at the Manning Senior Citizen Centre, the information sessions provided the community with an opportunity to hear about the Manning Hub project design and ask questions from City of South Perth staff and Project Architects, Bollig Design.

Vicki Lummer, City of South Perth Director of Development and Community Services, gave a brief presentation on Manning Hub’s background, where the project is at and where to from here. The final project costings are expected to be presented to the City of South Perth Council (at a special meeting or at the November 2014 meeting) and the construction tenders will be invited to make submission that will then be presented to Council in February 2015. All going to plan, construction will begin on site at Manning Hub in May 2015 and be completed by August 2016.

Project Architects Edwin Bollig and Amanda Yau from Bollig Design, outlined the Manning Hub building design, sustainability aspects, the underground carparking, community space and integration of facilities, maximising sight-lines, community safety and access and inclusion.

The Manning Hub design is catering for a range of services and facilities including the a new 1000m2 Manning Library (to be relocated from the current site on Manning Road), new Manning Hall, the Manning Child Health Clinic, Moorditj Keila, the Manning Rippers Football Clubrooms and an Early Years Centre (accommodating playgroups and the Manning Toy Library). The major stakeholders have been extensively involved in the purpose built design and the City has and will continue to engage with the community about the public spaces within the project.

After the presentations, the community asked a number of questions ranging from the underground carparking facilities; laneway access behind the Welwyn Ave shops, how anti-social behaviour will be minimised by design elements, and what facilities will be included in the new Manning Hub and specific access issues.
