How long has it been closed for?

The City’s Dog Pound has been closed since 18 March 2014.

When will it open?

Construction works on the facility are estimated to finish by 19 September 2014. It is anticipated the facility will reopen on 1 October 2014.

What will be new about it? How many animals can it house?

The City is conducting alterations and additions to the existing dog pound facility, upgrading it to a new Animal Care Facility.  The new facility will be capable of housing over 60 animals, which will include cats as a result of the recent introduction of the Cat Act.

The proposed building design follows the guidelines for an Animal Care Facility as required by the RSPCA, which will include new isolation areas for infection, quarantine areas, assessing areas and meet the new standards for housing of animals. Other new key features include an office and waiting room, new toilet/shower facilities and a secured unloading zone.
