Was a plan that consists of ideas accumulated from the previous workshops presented at this meeting? If not, do you have a time frame of when it will be?

The master planning process for Karawara has generated considerable interest from members of the local community.

Due to this high level of interest, the community workshop held in May at the Gowrie in Karawara to present the final plan was as an additional interactive session for community engagement to maximise input from residents and stakeholders in working towards the final public open space master plan.

City of South Perth Officers and the team of consultants believed this change to the final stage of project would offer the community another opportunity to become involved in the masterplanning process.  Members of the community will be advised once the Karawara public open space masterplan is complete.

What are the project principals and how are they defined?
Four key project principals have emerged as being the top priorities of community members; these include building on the existing Karawara character, connectivity, amenity, and safety and security.

What were the biggest issues identified by the public in these workshops?
Priority issues have been identified through the consultation process with the Karawara community.

The issues identified through consultation that have a proportionally high level of support by the community include improving how people interact and navigate their way around the area, highlighting pedestrian connections and incorporating amenity in a central playground to create a central meeting area and community hub.

What is the next step for the open space masterplan?

The local Karawara community has been involved in the gathering of ideas and suggestion process of the planning.  The next step will be the finalisation of the open space masterplan and corresponding documentation.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The information gathered and various community connections made throughout the consultation program has already resulted in one community led project, a community herb garden, prior to the actual master plan being completed.

An enthusiastic group of local residents has partnered with the Gowrie and the City of South Perth to plan a community herb garden for the use and enjoyment of the Karawara community. Karawara Community Herbs will be installed outside The Gowrie in the Karawara greenways.

Residents are invited to participate in the working bee, with a sausage sizzle, on Sunday 28 July, 9:30am – 1pm.  Meet at the Gowrie, 61 Lowan Loop, Karawara.  Come along to participate in the planting, or drop by for the sausage sizzle, and watch the garden grow.  For further information, contact the Community Development Team, 9474 0777, enquiries@southperth.wa.gov.au
