Funding received for animal care facility
The existing facility will undergo a facelift to accommodate the housing of cats under new legislation introduced by the state government.
From 1 November 2013, the State Government’s Cat Act 2011 will come into effect. Under the Act, all domestic cats need to be identified, registered and sterilised in an attempt to reduce the number of stray cats being euthanised and to provide for responsible cat ownership.
In addition to the funding received, the City of South Perth has also allocated money for the upgrade. The new animal care facility will include increased accommodation for dogs, housing for cats under the new state legislation and the relocation of the animal care office.
City of South Perth Mayor Sue Doherty welcomed the funding.
“I commend the City’s ranger team for their commitment and impressive work in creating a first class animal care facility to be shared with the Town of Victoria Park.
“Meeting contemporary standards of animal care is paramount to the City in providing services to our community and the upgraded facility will achieve this.”
