Construction begins on Library and Halls Redevelopment

Media Release 13 August 2009

The City of South Perth Civic Hall has been cleaned out in readiness for renovations to begin this week.

Three upright pianos have been fostered out to local groups while works are carried out on the halls over the next eighteen months.

City of South Perth Mayor James Best said: “We are very excited to begin construction on this integral project for the City. Expressions of interest were invited from local community groups interested in being a custodian for an upright piano during refurbishments.

“The groups that volunteered were; Aquinas College, Manning Senior Citizens Centre and Kent Street Senior High School.

“I hope their new pianos are enjoyed, and I am pleased they will be in use rather than placed in storage.”

On Wednesday 22 September, Manning Senior Citizens Centre celebrates its 26th Anniversary. At 12.00 noon, several talented locals including former Major of the City of South Perth, John Collins, will perform using the fostered piano.

Centre Supervisor Glenn Rogers says they will make use of the piano while they can. “This enables us to expand our concert repertoire and give two piano recitals.”
