Today it is my privilege and honour to welcome you to the magnificent Sir James Mitchell Park for this Citizenship Ceremony, and in particular I extend a warm welcome to those about to become Australia’s newest citizens.
The festive season is a time to reflect on the year that was and look forward to the things to come. It’s also a moment where we can pause to think about people in our community less fortunate.
The City is alive with colour and activity! The Jacaranda trees have flowered and turned our streets purple, the foreshore is buzzing with visitors at the pop up Embargo bar and Mends Street has been lit up with Kathy Allam's Miasma artwork.
It was another exceptionally busy month at the City with the launch of the 2016 Emerging Artist Award, the national Garage Sale Trail event and the announcement that the City was successful in securing $2.5 million in Federal Government funding for Connect South.
There’s always so much happening in our City, whether it be school holiday activities at George Burnett Leisure Centre or the local Libraries. Plus we've recently we’ve seen the installation of fabulous new public artworks at the eagerly anticipated and soon to be completed Manning Community Hub.
